Will Bagley’s dozen books cover overland emigration, frontier violence, railroads, and mining. He is the author of Blood of the Prophets: Brigham Young and the Massacre at Mountain Meadows, which won the Western History Association’s Caughey Book Prize for the year’s most distinguished book on the history of the American West, and series editor of the Arthur H. Clark Company’s documentary history, Kingdom in the West: The Mormons and the American Frontier. His Always a Cowboy: Judge Wilson McCarthy and the Rescue of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad, appeared in 2008 and describes the liquidity crisis of 1932 and the rebuilding of the West’s greatest railroad. Mr. Bagley lives in Salt Lake City, where he served as a Wallace Stegner Centennial Fellow at the University of Utah. The first volume of Overland West: The Story of the Oregon and California Trails, will appear next spring.
